Family Law Paralegal

Job description

The Figueroa Law Group, P.A., in Melbourne, Florida, is looking to hire a full-time family law paralegal to join our growing team. The ideal candidate must have 3-5 years of law firm experience and 1-3 years of experience in the area of family law. This position includes a significant amount of client contact requiring a positive attitude and excellent communication skills. In addition, this position requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team.

Position Summary:

Paralegals assist and provide a range of legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in family law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing legal and factual research; performing records research
  • Billing at least 30 hours per week
  • Identifying relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes, and other pertinent material; reviewing and monitoring new and updated regulations
  • Organizing and analyzing information; cross-checking and validating information
  • Preparing written reports and drafting legal documents including pleadings, legal agreements, and correspondence
  • Helping prepare legal arguments, applications, declarations, and motions
  • Checking legal forms and documents for accuracy
  • Maintaining reference files; organizing and tracking case files
  • Coordinating law office activities such as subpoena deliveries
  • Locating and communicating with witnesses; interacting with clients
  • Assisting the lawyer in the courtroom
  • Trial preparation including organizing and bate stamping evidence
  • E-filing court documents
  • Scheduling and setting depositions, hearings, and mediation conferences
  • Contacting Judicial Assistants, opposing counsels, process servers, and mediators
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma required
  • 1-3 years of experience in family law
  • 3-5 years of law firm experience
  • 3-5 years of preparing attorneys for trial
  • Knowledge and experience in discovery disclosures
  • Knowledge and experience in working with clients
  • Excellent typing skills
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience considered
  • Thorough knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques, legal terminology, and government regulations
  • Excellent legal drafting, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment such as a copy machine, fax machine, printer, scanner, computer
  • Ability to work with databases and on-line technological platforms
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, diligent, and flexible
  • Ability to handle conflicting time demands and focus on task completion with little direction or need for supervisory follow-up
  • Proficient command of the English language in both oral and written format
  • Ability to work and maintain patience with diversified individuals of various ethnic backgrounds and professional competencies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional manner

We work closely in a fast paced and high-volume work environment. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, have an ability to work independently and as part of a team, and must have litigation experience. The candidate must be licensed and in good standing with the Florida Bar Association.

Licensed Attorney in Florida:
